Standing some thousand feet about the valley floor, most of these mountains are part of Saddleback Butte State Park; created to preserve the pristine natural beauty of the high desert.
 

Just a twenty mile drive east of Lancaster; the Sattleback Butte's are open to hikers, campers, horseback riders, star gazers and anyone interested in learning about the area and its animal inhabitants.

How to get there:

  • Exit the Antelope Valley Freeway (14) at Avenue J and head east until you reach 170th Street East. Park is very easy to find
  • Campground entrance is located off of Avenue K and 170th street East (Avenue K is 1 mile South of Avenue J)

What to bring:

  • Plenty of water - Come prepared! There are no water fountains.
  • Sunblock
  • Hiking shoes

You should know:

  • Summer months can get VERY hot
  • Snakes that are native to the area include rattlesnakes that could possibly be out, so be aware when hiking
  • Winds can blow very hard in the area - There are however windscreens at every campsite.
  • Family campgrounds are reserved on a first come first served basis for a fee of $12 per night
  • Group campgrounds must be reserved in advance by calling (800) 444-7275, or go online: Fee is $66 per night. 
  • Spring is generally the best time to camp here - The weather is mild and the wildflowers are spectacular at this time of the year. With that in mind, Spring is also really the only busy time so come early to get a great spot to camp.
  • OK for RVs up to 24 feet. Facilities include: Restrooms, picnic table, visitor center, RV dump station.
