On July 14, 2009, the City Council adopted the newly proposed Lancaster Comprehensive General Plan Update (GPU), after making some minor revisions to the recommendations submitted by the Lancaster Planning Commission.
The new General Plan Update calls for a better balance between various land uses in all areas of the City, so that residents will have a variety of services and uses available to them nearby. The plan allows for mixed use development within designated areas in the urban core of the City, providing the opportunity for diversity in housing and lifestyle offerings. Sufficient space for industrial and job growth is also allotted. Important components of the GPU include the recently approved City of Lancaster Parks and Open Space Master Plan, as well as the Transportation Master Plan, which was used for analysis purposes.
