The War on Crime in The Antelope Valley

Posted by AVNewstoday in Antelope Valley

AVNewstoday

The war on crime has stepped up a bit in both cities and we're glad to see it. Day after day readers can see where our law enforcement is out there conducting criminal sweeps throughout the communities. From traffic stops to parole sweeps, the war on crime is heating up and it is an ongoing process.

The AV News continuously reports on the war on crime here in the Antelope Valley. It is amazing to see how the cities here in the Antelope Valley continuously pour resources into our Sheriff's department to deliver the "one, two" punch needed to keep gang members heads down.

It doesn't do any good to go out now and then and conduct a sweep here and there. It takes the dedication seen today by our Sheriff's department to continuously sweep through the communities and let the criminals know that when they rise up, the Sheriff's department will be there to knock them back down.
It is merely my opinion but the war on crime must be seen tactically the same as in any war. Hit them, hit them again, and hit them yet again until they cease their preying upon our citizens.

Crime and gang violence is homegrown terrorism, what other name can you put on it? Criminals terrorize the very citizens who send their young off to fight on foreign shores or work within our community to rebuild our cities. Businesses must survive to support our economy and they are targeted by criminals and gang members who fail to, or refuse to make an honest living.

A.C.L.U. - WHERE ARE YOU?

Posted by AVNewstoday in The AV News , Harry Brodock , Antelope Valley

A.C.L.U.  -  WHERE ARE YOU?
The ACLU has in the past shown that they want to interpret the U.S. Constitution.  One part in particular is the separation of Church and State. Because of that, there can be no Christian activities on state/government supported schools. There can be no renting of facilities for Christian activities as well as restrictions of the use and display of Christmas materials.
O.K. A.C.L.U.  -  Where are you?  Many, many schools are bending over backward (forward) to make sure that Muslim children have times to pray.  They have set aside rooms and prayer mats for the purpose. This practice is being done despite the fact that a religion is being allowed in a public school system.  What the hell is the difference? Is a Muslim more important that a Christian? Are we afraid to offend? So what if they do not get to pray five times a day? Adapt! What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the camel.!  ACLU – get off your dead butts and fix this or stay out of the way!

AV Entertainment Weekly Goes "One on One" with Cody Collins of "Lonestar"

Interviewing celebrities, stars, singers and performers is the best part of what I do and when I learned I would be interviewing the front man for the country rock super group Lonestar, I thought it would be a great interview, not to mention a great privilege.

Most of the time you ask the "standard questions" and get the "standard answers" to get your article out on time. I attempted to stick to the "standard questions" but with Cody Collins, I got a real person telling me like it is and I found that to be relaxing and refreshing. So, the "standard" interview went out the door.

I found this singer and country sensation to be pleasant, open minded and honest with the fire still burning inside of him to be the best.

Cody Collins is the newest member and lead vocals for "Lonestar". Lonestar has been making top 10 hits since 1995 and Cody joined the prestigious group in 2007, giving his unique country-rock voice to an already powerful line-up.

That powerful line-up includes guitarist Michael Britt, keyboards and guitarist Dean Sams, and Keech Rainwater on drums. Cody describes Britt as "the smartest guy I know" and Dean Sams as "business smart, in allot of ways".

Born in Dothan, Alabama you only have to talk to Cody for a few seconds to hear that southern accent that makes his voice so unique and powerful. Cody told me that he was moved to Pensacola Florida when he was six years old and now calls Nashville home.

Being brought on board by Lonestar was a bit of a shock to Cody as he told me that he was singing in a house band in Atlanta back in 2007 when he received a phone call. Cody said that during that phone call he was told that he had been selected to be the groups new lead singer. Believing Aston Kutcher of the hit television show "Punked" was hiding nearby, Cody said he thought someone was playing a huge trick on him, only to learn it was no trick.

With over 10 smash hits that began chart busting in 1995, well over ten million records sold and named The Academy of Country Music's "Top New Group" of 1995, Lonestar was a super group that required a dedicated hard working professional to take over the lead vocals and Cody got the call.

Learning such hits as "Tequila Talkin'," "No News," "Runnin' Away With My Heart," and "Come Cryin' to Me"  to name just a couple, Cody said he had to learn all of the Lonestar hits and said that he did everything he could to sing the songs the way they had been previously recorded so that the audience would enjoy them as they were when they were originally released.

I asked Cody how he chose this profession, "I don't know, I just started singing, started singing as a kid and learned I was able to". I then asked Cody if he had changed any since being brought on as the new lead singer. "No, I'm still me, it's a lot of hard work and I love it, you have to love it, I love it the same now as I did then, the same as that first time".

With a brand new album out, and a top single, "You're the reason why", Lonestar is due to leave on tour and will be visiting Detroit, Pennsylvania, Ft. Myers and a few other stops and Cody is looking forward to it.

When asked if he missed being at home instead of the road Cody explained that he lives with his room mate, no wife, dog or current girlfriend, so the road is just fine with this country star.

When it comes to music, other then Lonestar music, Cody said that he enjoys listening to Bob Marley and Aerosmith when he is truly relaxing, which demonstrates that he is wide open to style and influence. You only have to listen to Lonestar's new release to tell that Cody's vocals and the bands style keeps this super group on top if multiple influences and great country band.

According to Cody, one of the biggest highlights for him was when Lonestar sang "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch of Game 4 of the 2007 World Series in Colorado and the Grand Ole Opry, not to mention he's still walking on a cloud as the lead singer for this magnificent group.

Some critics love to pick bands apart after replacing the front man but its hard to pick this band apart. Seeing how they're still selling out arena's and releasing top hits, I don't see this band going away anytime soon. The band's decision to choose Cody Collins was brilliant and anyone who doesn't believe in the power of MySpace just needs to watch and listen to Lonestar.

The current new release, "Party Heard Around the World" was released in April and is a true testament to this groups talent and staying power. The new single release, "You're the Reason Why" is simply kick ass. Cody told me that the band collaborated on the latest album and they all had a hand in writing the songs and it shows.

We are truly excited about Lonestar coming to the Antelope Valley and the Palmdale Starlight concert in July and we will truly enjoy the music this group produces.

Some groups replace the front man and never recover, this group is going to stay at the top where it truly belongs with the old and the new and I believe the new is going to be a real ride.

Silver Valley Sun Club
Newberry Springs, California

Story and Photo's
By Tom Bryant

When looking for a weekend get-a-way spot, something different, something "out of the norm", we've found an ideal place. For those who enjoy desert living, lakes, pools, hot tubs and clothing optional living, Silver Valley Sun Club in Newberry Springs is that place.

Nestled in the desert, just 13 miles east of Barstow on the I-15, Newberry Springs is a quiet, small community with a lot of pride. Newberry Springs also happens to be the home of the Silver Valley Sun Club.

As we traveled east on the I-15 to the Sun Club, we had no idea what we would encounter once we arrived. We were definitely apprehensive since we had not been asked to review a "clothing optional" resort before, this was a first for us. You hear all the stories associated with clothing optional living but unless you've actually been to one, especially as a journalist, you have no idea what you may encounter.

I have to admit that arriving at the resort made us a little nervous, as you might probably imagine, but we had traveled an hour and a half and there was no turning back.

The resort is surrounded by a large wooden privacy fence, and access is granted through an electronically controlled gate. Driving inside we saw a very nice manicured resort with beautiful pools of water, paddle boats, tree's and buildings.

We were met by Sandra Delaney, the resorts General Manager, and SaLaura Gates the Assistant General Manager for Silver Valley Sun Club. We were pleasantly surprised to meet two highly motivated professional's who managed a business and were determined businesswomen.

Sandra is the granddaughter of the resorts founders, Nancy and John Dulle. Established in 1988, the resort was built and ran entirely by the Dulle's until Nancy Dulle became ill.

An Ohio native, and just 5 classes short of her Masters Degree in Business, Sandra left college in Maryland and traveled to Newberry Springs to help out once she learned of her grandmothers illness. That visit has turned into a permanent stay to run the resort. Nancy Dulle lost her battle and passed away, leaving the resort without a leader at the resort.

Taking over as the General Manager in 2009, Sandra needed some help. San Francisco native SaLaura Gates came to the resort in April as a guest and never left.

SaLaura was a teachers Assistant in after school programs for special educational needs children, SaLaura seems to have found her place here at Silver Valley. "The experience of being away from home, (San Francisco) is liberating, doing something on my own, helping Sandra deal with the resort" is why she came here, said SaLaura.

Together, these two businesswomen run a resort with a membership of almost 70 people from around the world. I asked Sandra how hard it was to run a "clothing optional" resort.

"I run the resort like my grandmother wanted it to be run, it is a small comfortable place for people who have never participated in a clothing optional lifestyle as my grandmother intended it to be", said Sandra. "This is a family orientated resort, we want the best for our members who also expect the best" Sandra added.

The work is hard, since the ladies are the maintenance, housecleaning and management all rolled into one but make no mistake, these ladies are professional businesswoman making a resort functional and operational.

Amenities at the resort include 2 very large lakes for swimming, water volleyball, paddleboating and fishing. There are several private islands in the lakes for private sunbathers. The resort has a large hot tub, as well as a brand new swimming pool. There is a pool room, shuffle board area, BBQ area, fire pit, Karaoke, dining facility and camping. You can pitch a tent or rent a room. You can also rent a mobile home trailer with all the comforts, a smaller trailer for sleeping, or a large ranch house room inside the main house.

The resort prides itself as a clothing optional resort because guests are not required to completely undress. Women can lounge in a body wrap and swimming shorts or towels can help the men feel more comfortable. The only time guests are required to be totally undressed is in the water, pool or hot tub.

Sandra welcomes all members and guests and there is no discrimination against anyone. All guests are welcomed no matter the race, gender or sexual preference.

Some may believe that a clothing optional facility may be a hotbed of misbehavior but we saw for ourselves that this is a professionally run resort by two very talented professionals and the rules and guidelines are strict. Misbehavior is not tolerated and those that wish to disobey the rules are escorted out.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Silver Valley Sun Club and we know our readers who are adventurous or are naturalists will enjoy a visit as well. The drive isn't too bad, just the other side of Barstow, and the people are great.

For more information about the resort, call Sandra or SaLaura at (760) 257-4239. If you're a naturalist, this is a comfortable and relaxing place to be. www.avnewstodayonline.com

Palmdale LASD Off Road Team Competes in Caliente Nevada

Posted by AVNewstoday in Tom Bryant , The AV News , Palmdale Sheriff , Antelope Valley

AVNewstoday

LASD Off Road Deputies loaded up their black and white class 8 race truck, the team’s pit crew, and supportive families and headed out for a six and half hour drive north to the town of Caliente Nevada for SNORE Racing Associations latest off road race.

The course was quite different from the last, as unlike the traditional low land desert races, Caliente is situated above five thousand feet nestled among the many pine trees and snow covered peeks.
