Antelope Valley's Meth Problem

I like to browse forums (maybe too much) and one such popular forum is the city-data forum where people from other areas are usually asking questions about living in one area or another. It seems like anytime anyone asks about Palmdale, Lancaster or the Antelope Valley in general the topic of meth is brought up. Here is a prime example:

 Question:

" hello everyone,

i might be moving to palmdale in a couple of months, and i was wondering if theres a website that i can find estate agents, or places to rent, and websites with used cars, dealerships, or with ppl advertising their cars for sale?
also, anyone of you might know if theres a cisco corporation near by? i was told that there is one but when i went to cisco's website i couldnt find any info on this subject.
any places to snowboard near by?
how is palmdale in general? i was only able to read statistics and such. would i be better off living in lancaster, quatz hill or maybe acton?
thank you so much for you help,

leszek"

One reply from  Socal mom:

"The Antelope Valley is the meth production capital of LA county. The place is not getting any better than it was when I lived there 6 years ago. And it was a cesspool then."

DeserTBob comes to the AV's defense:

"Well, that has changed quite a bit. Large scale meth labs in northern LA county were pretty much mowed down by a DEA sweep a few years back, and the decimation of the Vagos motorcycle gang's Mojave chapter after a deadly war with the Hell's Angels broke their hold on the retail/wholesale methamphetemine trade. However, the "home cooking" of meth in mobile homes continues virtually unabated. A trained monkey can cook that stuff if they have the ingredients. Bigger lab operators simply moved into Kern and San Bernardino counties at that time where enforcement was more lax and population more sparse, and the big meth "superlabs" in Mexico still provide the bulk of the product.

 Swell.

How about this from Yahoo Answers:

Q: What kind of community is palmdale,USA?
My family plans to live and work there.

A: High desert, high crime, low-middle class, meth labs. It's not even nice to pass through on Hwy 14.

Or this from Trulia:

Q:  Is Lancaster, CA a good area to invest?

A: If you plan on creating a meth lab or just buying meth, then it would be an ideal place to live

--------------------------

Wow - the AV has some clean-up work to do on their reputation. I suppose that to start they need to clean up the meth problems.

Meth is a pretty big problem around these parts. I was driving along the 14 fwy and there was a house on fire out around Avenue F, I think, not too long ago. The first thing that went through my mind was "meth lab". I didn't even give it a second thought until now. I suppose it's ingrained in my mind at this point.

I have lived here in this valley since 1957 and never have saw one meth lab. Not saying they are not here and there, but they haven't been around where I live or have lived.

The area is large here so more things can happen. It happens every where. You just hear about it here. Same thing was said about Canyon Country in the 80's

Clean up

I work down in LA and I hear the "Palmdale is ghetto" stuff all the time. I have lived here most of my life but I like it, it's not like people down below describe it. I would love to help change this "meth lab" perception. This is our city, we can make it what we want.

I live in California City and there does seem to be a meth problem out here as well. You are right, if we as a community do nothing to clean it up, nothing will change.

ANTELOPE VALLEY SHERRIFFS ARE RACIST!!!!!
written by FUK AV, September 15, 2009
i thought the law was supposed to protect you!!!! The Lancaster Sherriffs Department is racist!!!!! I got pulled over for not making a complete stop at a red sign. I thought I was just going to get a ticket, but instead I discovered how racist it is in the Antelope Valley. The officer pulled me over asked me to turn off my car, show him the vehicle key and hand it over. At this point I had a feeling it wasnt a rountine stop, but I was coooperating. I handed my insurance and car registration over as well as my key, to have the officer respond, "YOU FILTHY DIRTY WET BACK, GET OUT OF YOUR CAR." I got out, but my 1 year old son stayed in the car. He was crying because he didnt know what was going on. The officer told me to get my "FILTHY WORTHLESS PIECE OFF SHIT OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE IM GONNA GIVE YOU A BREAK." Desperate to console my son, I took him out of his car seat. The officer said "TODAY IS YOUR LUCKY DAY MAAM, IM NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU A TICKET, BUT YOU AND THAT FILTHY BRAT NEED TO START WALKING WHEREVER THE HELL YALL WAS GOING!". I just moved out here less than a month ago, so I dont know anyone. I took my son and left. I went by the spot a day later to discover my car still there. I had a spare key and drove off!!!!!! I still cant believe this occurred!!! Unfortunately since I didnt get a ticket I dont have any of this officers information.

the wonderful av..

Okay iv'e ived in the av my whole life. every thing has changed since 2000 you cant walk down the street without watching your back because all the muggers and druggies that need there meth money. East lancaster is the SLUMS!Its 80% black, west lancaster is very diverse between black whites and latinos. Its not nearly as bad a s the east side , you shouldn't even walk on the east side alone unless you have protection. All you is sirens ALL day long and the police helicopter all night long. It has become little Compton. East and Central Palmdale are very latino areas, central palmdale is just as horrible and slum like as east lancaster.East Palmdale is growing like theres NO tommorow and will soon start annexing Littlerock, which is (Little Mexico) a run down ugly place. The only "safe parts are Antelope Acres, maybe Quartz hill, and Rosamond. Butif you go to Rosamond and Antelope Acers your water is being polluted by toxic gases that under the ground in North Av because of nuclear testing at Edwards.. So if you want to live here just be warned it is turning into a little San Fernado Valley.

The system is supposed to be a temp move.... It also will fail you. I know too many people who work multiple part time jobs to make ends meet. If you need childcare there are programs out there that will help you. Respect yourself by not going on the system.
